W&E are an Irish, family-owned company that produces environmentally friendly sportswear. W&E strive to be one of the greenest suppliers of high-performance sporting apparel on the planet.
LOVE BEING DIFFERENT
W&E do things differently & are proud of it. W&E believe that the production of sportwear should be entirely reconsidered so that it can be done in a more sustainable, ethical & environmentally responsible fashion. Going green does not mean compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Our primary focus is on the sports jersey, an iconic product worn by millions of children & aspiring athletes across the planet. The traditional jersey is made almost exclusively from polyester, a high performance synthetic material derived from a chemical reaction involving coal, petroleum, air & water. Polyester is a plastic & is the third most used plastic across the globe after polyethylene & polypropylene. Is there an alternative to this virgin polyester?
Wouldn’t it be great if discarded plastic bottles could be up-cycled & made into fabric? What if, instead of ending up in landfills or polluting our oceans, they could be reused to make something people actually want? Well, they can. W&E use material that has been manufactured in such a way so that the resulting product looks, feels & performs as well as the virgin polyester.
W&E believe in being fully transparent therefore W&E only use certified suppliers from Europe, ensuring that the source plastic is fully traceable & our carbon footprint is minimized. W&E also take care of the people who make our clothes which is why they are only manufactured within the E.U. by people who uphold the same values we do.
W&E are also fully committed to supporting youth participation in sport, & are working with the underlying clubs, schools & organistations that are growing our country’s pool of sporting talent. W&E strive to work with these organisations so that players & the environment can both be on the winning team.
Each jersey we make up-cycles up to 6 x 1-litre plastic bottles.
"Standing pitch-side, watching my children play sport and realising that their sports kit was being made in remote parts of the world from a synthetic fibre made from petroleum and coal, sparked a very clear mission. Find a way to do things better!"
Stephen Daly spent close to two decades working overseas, gaining a real world education and exposure to the global economy, learning from some of the sharpest minds. Returning to Dublin in 2016, it was time to reboot. To find time to spent with a wonderful wife, three amazing children and always supportive parents. Time to buy some dogs and find a career with purpose!
"I returned to University and immersed myself in the word of sport. Trying to understand the challenges faced by aspiring athletes, the financial pressures faced by sporting organizations, and the changing landscape of sports governance. Its amazing to return to University when you want to be there! However I also discovered the inspirational face of volunteering throughout Irish sport. Individuals going beyond what is expected. Sport does change lives for the better and keeping everyone engaged with sport leads to positive outcomes".
"I want W&E to go beyond what is expected and to provide sustainable products that are not just a cost. To deliver a way in which both Wolfhound and the sports organisation can win. And if the local sports club can win, it has more resources to inspire and retain talent".
"Again the goal is simple, Wolfhound was born to be an Irish sports brand that's different. A brand that loves being Irish, a brand that is committed to supporting grassroots sport and help inspire, while doing everything in an ethical and environmental responsible way".
